FAQs

Who are you?

We are philanthropists based in the Caribbean and the United States, dedicated to providing support and funding to organizations and charities actively working to create change locally and globally. Our mission is to disrupt the nonprofit industrial complex by dismantling the traditional systems of gatekeeping that have historically determined who receives assistance and who is allowed to contribute.

We believe that some organizations have become too powerful and too large, often operating at the expense of the most marginalized groups in the world. While some organizations operate with budgets of millions, others—often led by the very marginalized communities they serve—struggle to function on a pittance. Our research shows that organizations run by the communities they serve are often underfunded and almost always staffed entirely by volunteers. We are committed to creating a new paradigm that prioritizes equity, accessibility, and the empowerment of excluded communities. There are hundreds of thousands of people around the world working tirelessly to improve their communities, and we aim to help fund those vital projects.

Our focus is to uplift women and girls in communities that have been historically excluded, such as the Romani communities, Indigenous communities, and countries that have been strategically underdeveloped due to colonialism and systemic exploitation. By prioritizing these communities, we aim to address historical injustices and foster sustainable, community-led development that honors their autonomy and resilience.

As young philanthropists, we focus on impact over recognition. We have no interest in seeing our names prominently displayed on buildings, plaques, or in headlines. Instead, we choose to remain anonymous, ensuring the spotlight stays on the individuals and causes we support. This approach allows the significance of their work to shine without distraction, aligning with our belief in uplifting others rather than ourselves.

By challenging entrenched systems and creating collaboration, we aim to support grassroots movements, amplify underrepresented voices, and reimagine philanthropy as a tool for transformative justice. Our giving is guided by a deep commitment to breaking down barriers, fostering inclusivity, and driving sustainable, community-led change.

How much are you giving away?

While the specific amount of our philanthropic giving remains confidential and is managed by our accountants, we have allocated a substantial sum to support initiatives that drive positive social change. Our current priorities include building schools, fully funding organizations addressing gender-based violence (GBV), and providing financial support to women entrepreneurs. While we are open to considering various ideas, these areas are our primary focus and at the top of our wish list.

What is the maximum that my organization or business can apply for?
Our gifts to existing charity groups range from $2500 to over $1million USD.

Do I have to be a nonprofit to get funding? I have medical bills or other expenses. Can you help?
Currently, we do not provide direct financial assistance to individuals.

How can I donate?

We operate solely on our own resources and do not rely on external donations. As a fully self-funded organization, we have the autonomy to determine how our philanthropic efforts are carried out. This self-sufficiency allows us to align our resources with our vision and priorities without relying on external funding.

I do not yet have an organization. Can I still apply for funding?

GWIF welcomes nonprofit entrepreneurs and encourages them to seek funding. If your mission aligns with our areas of interest, we may be able to provide financial assistance to help you navigate the necessary paperwork, such as obtaining 501(c)(3) status or your country’s equivalent, and offer funding to support your organization’s launch. We firmly believe that the nonprofit sector has been dominated by the same gatekeepers for far too long, and we are committed to using our resources to bring about change.
